Founder Johan Halsberghe is a Belgium-born chef living in New York. He makes artisanal chocolate mousse on the foundation of Belgian artistry and American dreams.
Founders Petrushka and Nick Larsen are long time Harlem residents who always dreamed of the ‘sweet life’ that so many generations in Sugar Hill sought. Combining their respective backgrounds of community involvement and culinary expertise, Sugar Hill Creamery was born.
Founder Essie Bartels grew up in Ghana where her love of spice began in her mother’s tiny kitchen. Essie later traveled the world, experimenting with flavors until she saw a demand for her homemade spices, and Essie Spice was born.
Teri Johnson is a native Texan who decided to make Harlem her permanent home. Inspired by her love of travel and fragrances, Teri uses the power of scent to share Harlem’s rich history through luxury candles.
Founder Janie Deegan spent years struggling with addiction and homelessness in her early 20’s. Baking became a form of self-care for Janie as she began reconstructing her life and trying to stay sober.
